Meet Your Hosts
Kathy and Shanti met just before the world came to a halt at a running retreat hosted by Shanti in southern Utah in early March 2020. From that moment, the two knew they would join forces and bring women together on healing journeys in the desert. This spring will be the first of many future retreat the two hope to host together!

Retreat Inspiration & co-host
Before becoming an award-winning running coach, Kathy was a new mom battling postpartum depression and pregnancy weight. She devised a “reasonable plan” for herself: complete a marathon, even though she’d never run before. Strapping her newborn, Ava, into a baby jogger, Kathy worked hard to achieve her goal. Multiple marathons followed, including two at St. George, as did her holistic wellness business, Kathy Pugh Running, in Washington, DC. For over a decade, Kathy’s lead popular morning run camps on the National Mall as well as coached women one-on-one. She writes health and fitness articles, teaches cooking classes, and since becoming a certified yoga teacher (her “pandemic project”), weaves yoga’s mind-body-spirit benefits into her programs. When not in sneakers, Kathy volunteers at DC museums and theatres, reads a book a week, and heads back to Brooklyn to visit her parents—and to enjoy carb loading on real pizza.
